Ian McGowan is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. He is the Co-Principal investigator of the Microbicide Trials Network (MTN), an HIV/AIDS clinical trials network established in 2006 by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, part of the US National Institutes of Health. As Co-Principal investigator of the MTN, he is intimately involved in the oversight and leadership of a major global effort that will design and implement a broad portfolio of Phase 1-3 trials of candidate vaginal and rectal microbicides at clinical research sites in the US, India, and Africa. Dr. McGowan has served as a consultant for the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization. He has also chaired the US Food and Drug Administration Antiviral Drug Advisory Committee.
