Atul Humar, MD, University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB, Canada

Atul Humar, MD, is Associate Professor, Department of Medicine, and Director of Transplant Infectious Diseases at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Dr Humar received his medical degree from the University of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Ottawa and a fellowship in infectious diseases at the University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Dr Humarís research interests focus on transplant infectious diseases with an emphasis on posttransplant herpesvirus infections. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles in addition to numerous reviews, book chapters, and meeting abstracts addressing cytomegalovirus (CMV) molecular diagnostics, host responses to CMV, CMV interactions with human herpesvirus-6, and emerging viral infections. Dr. Humar is past Chair of the American Society of Transplantation (AST) Infectious Diseases Community of Practice and is Vice President of The Transplantation Society Infectious Disease Section. He has assisted in several guidelines development efforts including the AST infectious diseases guidelines.
