Dr.Gerald Bodey FACP,FCCP,FIDSA is an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Infection Control, The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas.He was formerly Chairman of the Department of Medical Specialties and Chief of the Section of Infectious Diseases. He has held Professorships at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Medical Branch, University of Texas Health Science Center Dental Branch and Baylor College of Medicine. He has served on committees of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Pan American Health Organization, Food and Drug Administration and various scientific societies. He has also been an Editor of several scientific journals. Dr. Bodey has spent his career in the areas of new therapies for malignant diseases (until 1983) and new antimicrobial agents for infections in cancer patients.He pioneered in the field of prophylaxis and therapy of infections in neutropenic patients and conducted the first studies of laminar airflow rooms for cancer patients. He is an author or co-author of over 1000 scientific publications and has been listed among the 300 most-cited authors in scientific literature by the Institute for Scientific Information.
