Brief Bio Of Donald Armstrong M.D., MACP, FIDSA, FAAM Donald Armstrong graduated from The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University in 1957 and interned on the Cornell Division of Bellevue Hospital in NYC. He did his internal medicine at the University of Colorado Hospitals and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC). He served 2 years in the USPHS at the Virus Laboratory of the NIAID and the next 2 years at the Virus Laboratory of the Childrens’ Hospital of Philadelphia which was the virus laboratory for the state of Pennsylvania. On returning to MSKCC he became Director of the Microbiology Laboratory and infectious disease consultant for the hospital along with Donald B. Louria and in 1971 he founded the Infectious Disease Service. He became a Professor of Medicine at Cornell University Medical College and taught there throughout his career. He pursued studies in the immunocompromised host for 35 years with more than fifty fellows in his fellowship program. Many of the fellows have become leaders in clinical and research programs around the world. Dr. Armstrong was among the first to describe AIDS and to initiate clinical and laboratory studies along with his fellows in this disease. He is a past president of the Infectious Disease Society of America and was a founding member and past president of the Infectious Disease Society of New York . He became an Emeritus Member of MSKCC in the year 2000 and he continues to lecture, write and organize conferences in the Peoples Republic of China and Taiwan. He serves on scientific and hospital boards and on the Foundation of The Chinatown Health Clinic in NYC which he helped, as a volunteer, to found in 1971.
