Dr. Tunkel is Chair, Department of Medicine at Monmouth Medical Center and Professor of Medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine. Previously, he was Vice Chair of the Department of Medicine, Associate Dean for Admissions, and Senior Associate Dean for Academic Campuses at Drexel University College of Medicine; he is now Drexelís AOA Honor Medical Society Councilor. Dr. Tunkel has contributed 100 book chapters, 66 articles, 24 editorials and commentaries, and one book, Bacterial Meningitis. He is the editor of Central Nervous System and Eye Infections in Current Infectious Disease Reports and is respected as an authority on infectious diseases, particularly meningitis and central nervous system infections. He serves as Chair of the Central Nervous System Practice Guidelines Committee for IDSA; the Committee has published guidelines for the management of bacterial meningitis and encephalitis. Dr. Tunkel is currently a member of the MKSAP 15 Infectious Diseases Committee. He served recently on the Governorís Council for the ACP Pennsylvania Southeastern Region and was honored with a Laureate Award from the Pennsylvania Chapter in 2005. He was inducted as a Master of the American College of Physicians in 2008.
