Thursday, October 3, 2013: 8:30 AM-10:00 AM
Room: The Moscone Center: 120-125

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • review the performance of diagnostic tests for invasive candidiasis and mould infections in different clinical settings.
  • explore how data from diagnostic tests can reshape concepts of disease, colonization, and pathogenesis for invasive candidiasis and mould infections
  • consider the questions that should be asked in future diagnostic studies
  •  review the current performance of molecular tests for the detection and quantification of Aspergillus DNA
  • discuss approaches to standardizing molecular tests
  • review the potential of newer diagnostic tests for aspergillosis and invasive candidiasis to influence the current pre-emptive therapeutic approaches to these infections in the nosocomial setting
  • explore the impact of new assays for cryptococcal disease on early intervention programs among at-risk populations
  • review future developments in the early diagnosis of histoplasmosis and coccidioidomycosis
