Katherine Allen-Bridson, RN, BSN, MScPH, CIC, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta, GA

Katherine Allen-Bridson is a Nurse Consultant with the Centers for Disease Control and Preventionís (CDC) Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion (DHQP) Surveillance Branch (SB) where she is a member of the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) Protocol and Training Team. Her responsibilities include acting as a subject matter expert for healthcare-associated infection (HAI) surveillance, development of surveillance definitions protocols and modules, training and supporting NHSN users in application of the surveillance definitions, and collaboration with governmental and non-governmental agencies dealing with HAI reporting and regulation. Kathy has over 25 years of professional nursing experience including over 10 years of experience as an Infection Control Nurse at a large teaching hospital and 4 years as the state coordinator of an international infectious disease surveillance project at the Michigan Department of Community Health . Kathy is a published author in the field of infection control, including journal articles, chapters in the APIC Text and infection control textbooks and is a manuscript reviewer for the American Journal of Infection Control. Her BSN is from the University of Michigan and her Masters of Science in Public Health is from the University of Londonís School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
