Louis B. Rice, M.D. is the Joukowsky Professor of Medicine and Chairman of the Department of Medicine at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Providence, R.I. Dr. Rice received his A.B. from Harvard University, his M.D. from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, followed by Internal Medicine residency training at NYU and Infectious Diseases fellowship training at the Deaconess Hospital and Harvard Medical School. For the past 25 by ears, Dr. Rice's research has focused on the mechanisms of resistance to antibacterial agents and the use of antibiotics to treat nosocoamial infections. He is currently the Editor-in Chief of Antimicrobbial Agents and Chemotherapy, the Chair of the IDSA Research on Resistance Working Group and the outgoing Chair of the IDSA Research Committee.
