Steve D. Burdette, MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program Director at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, Dayton, OH; Medical Director of Infectious Diseases at Green Memorial Hospital and Soin Medical Center.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the clinical significance of pneumococcal serotypes;
  • Describe factors that influence serotype distribution in adults; and
  • Review results of efficacy and effectiveness trials of pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccines or
  • PPSVs
