A discussion of Next Generation Sequencing as a new epidemiological tool that provides rapid identification and high level characterization of bacterial strains possibly linked to HAI and community acquired infections.  NGS supports more proactive implementation of corrective infection prevention measures to reduce future outbreaks and reduce overall HAI related healthcare costs.
