Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • identify the qualities and characteristics of a mentoring relationship
  • identify the roles and expectations of the mentor and mentee in the relationship
  • identify and problem solve common obstacles encountered in a mentoring relationship
  • develop an agenda for your next meeting with your mentee
  • describe assessment and diagnostic strategies that determine a learner’s need for remediation
  • describe an appreciative coaching approach to remediation
  • indicate frequent challenges that arise in remediation cases
  • discuss remediation cases from participants and provide opportunities for reflection, consultation, and skills practice
  • apply the skills learned in this workshop to one's own practice setting, and review a tool designed to assess performance of new teaching skills
