Davoren Chick, MD, Medical Education, American College of Physicians, Philadelphia, PA

Davoren Chick MD, FACP, is an internist and Senior Vice President for Medical Education for the American College of Physicians (ACP). She is responsible for ACP’s medical knowledge products and services, planning ACP’s annual scientific meeting, editing ACP’s Medical Knowledge Self-Assessment Program, and producing resources to meet continuing medical educational needs. Dr. Chick earned her MD from Columbia University and performed internal medicine residency at Massachusetts General Hospital. She served on the faculty of Mass General and Harvard Medical School as a clinician-educator, and then joined Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, first as Medical Director of inpatient services, then as Residency Program Director. She subsequently joined the University of Michigan, becoming Associate Professor of both Internal Medicine and Learning Health Sciences, holding multiple leadership roles across the undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education spectrum, prior to her move to ACP. Dr. Chick has published numerous articles and book chapters, and provided numerous national presentations. Her interests include curriculum design and innovation, bedside medicine, stress reduction, billing & coding, and care for the underserved. Her national curriculum, caringwithcompassion.org, supports over 6,000 learners who provide clinical care for socioeconomically disadvantaged persons. Dr. Chick’s national roles have included Councilor of the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine (APDIM) and co-author of the Internal Medicine Milestones. She is currently a member of the Vision Commission, establishing recommendations for modernization of continuing Board certification (“maintenance of certification”). Her awards include the Society of General Internal Medicine Midwest Clinical Educator Award, the APDIM “Best Program Innovation Award” and the University of Michigan “Provost’s Teaching Innovation Prize.”
