Theoklis Zaoutis, MD, MSCE, is Werner and Gertrude Henle Professor of Pediatrics and Epidemiology and Senior Scholar in the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Dr. Zaoutis’ research focuses hospital epidemiology, with a special focus on invasive fungal infections. He has received funding and published extensively in the area of pediatric mycology. He has been invited speaker on the topic at multiple national and international. He serves on the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC)/Mycoses Study Group (MSG) working group to develop revised definitions for invasive fungal infections in immunocompromised patients. He is co-director of the Pediatric Fungal Network, a multi-center network created to gain a complete understanding of the epidemiology and outcomes of invasive fungal infections in children. He has also servesdas Vice Chair of Infectious Diseases Research for the Children’s Oncology Group, the largest childhood cancer research network in the country; caring for more than 90% of children with cancer. Finally, he has served as director of antimicrobial stewardship at CHOP Dr. Zaoutis is on the Editorial Board of Current Fungal Infection Reports and is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society. Finally, he is a Vice-Chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Infectious Diseases (The Red Book Committee) on which he leads the antimicrobial stewardship subcommittee.
