Nienke Van De Sande-Bruinsma, PhD, Pan American Health Organization, Washngton, DC

Dr Nienke van de Sande-Bruinsma is AMR advisor at the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) at Washington DC, where she is supporting Member States with the development and implementation of their National AMR Action Plans. From 2012 till 2017, Dr Bruinsma was AMR technical officer for the WHO Regional Office for Europe in Copenhagen, Denmark working with Central Asian and Eastern European countries on setting up national AMR surveillance, and antimicrobial and diagnostic stewardship. Dr Bruinsma has a PhD on Monitoring of Antibiotic Resistance from the University Maastricht in the Netherlands, where she worked until 2012 at the National Institute of Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) in the management team of the European Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Network (EARS-Net), and developed the National Surveillance system of Antimicrobial Resistance for the Netherlands.
