Chinazo Cunningham, MD, MS, Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine, Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY

Dr. Chinazo Cunningham is Professor of Medicine, Associate Chief of the Division of ¬General Internal Medicine, founding Director of the General Internal Medicine Fellowship Program, and Director of Diversity Affairs within the Department of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center. She has spent 20 years providing care, developing programs, and conducting research focused on marginalized populations, including people who use drugs with or at-risk for HIV infection. Her research has focused on improving access to care, utilization of health care services, and health outcomes. Dr. Cunningham has authored over 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts and has been the principal investigator on numerous grants funded by the NIH, CDC, HRSA, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and local and state Departments of Health. In addition to her own research, she has mentored scores of individuals, which has resulted in several NIH-funded grants led by junior faculty. Dr. Cunningham has served on numerous national advisory committees, guideline committees, and federal and foundation grant-review study sections. She is currently Chair of the NIH study section Behavioral and Social Consequences of HIV/AIDS and Chair of the NY State Department of Health AIDS Institute’s Substance Use Committee.
