Steven K. Schmitt, MD, FIDSA, Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, Cleveland, OH

Steven K. Schmitt, MD is a staff physician in the Department of Infectious Diseases at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and member of the Board of Directors of IDSA. Dr. Schmitt was born and raised in Cincinnati, OH. He graduated from Haverford College in 1982 and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1988. He completed his specialty training in Internal Medicine and his subspecialty training in Infectious Diseases at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Schmitt subsequently joined the staff of the Department of Infectious Disease at the Cleveland Clinic, where he is head of the Section of Bone and Joint Infections and Associate Professor of Medicine. He serves as Vice Chair of the Medicine Institute and Associate Hospital Epidemiologist.
Dr. Schmitt is a past president of the Infectious Diseases Society of Ohio. He is chair of the Value of Infectious Diseases Specialists Task Force of the Infectious Diseases Society of America. He serves in an advisory capacity for the Ohio Department of Health on emerging infections, public reporting of hospital quality measures, and bioterrorism preparedness.
Dr Schmitt’s clinical and research interests rest in bone and joint infections. He maintains an interest in electronic health records. He is Vice Chair for Professional Staff Development of the Medicine Institute at the Cleveland Clinic and is active in physician recruitment, on-boarding, and leadership development.
