Phillip O. Coffin, MD MIA, is a practicing and board certified Infectious Disease, Internal Medicine, and Addiction Medicine Specialist. He is also the Director of Substance Use Research at the San Francisco Department of Public Health, where he directs clinical trials seeking new pharmacotherapies for substance use disorders, behavioral interventions for HIV prevention and HCV treatment, and opioid overdose prevention; as well as implementation science and observational research addressing overdose prevention in clinical care, opioid safety among patients losing access to prescribed opioids, and drug-related morbidity and mortality surveillance.
